Blogging is a relatively new subset of the writing, and while thousands of people do it with little to no previous writing experience, gradually mastering your craft as a writer should be a\u00a0goal of every blogger. While there is no one correct way to write, especially when it comes to blogging, there\u2019s always room for improvement<\/a>. Use these writing tips from well-known authors to improve your writing, presentation, and style.<\/p>

  1. Cut Down Adverbs<\/strong><\/strong>

    \u201cSubstitute ‘damn’ every time you’re inclined to write ‘very;’ your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be.\u201d – Mark TwainMark Twain is one of the most famous of the early American writers, thanks to his real, direct style, and friendly characters. He was also famous for his curse words, which can be seen in his advice. The moral? If you’re writing something, don’t use redundant words. For instance, you can substitute or omit the word ‘very’ in almost all situations. \u2018It’s not very interesting\u2019 means the exact same thing when you remove ‘very’, and \u2018My desk is very neat\u2019 could just as easily be replaced by \u2018my desk is immaculate\u2019. Most readers don’t mind the use of ‘very’, but you’ll quickly see your writing tightening up and improving if you avoid using it.\u201cThe road to hell is paved with adverbs.\u201d – Stephen KingStephen King agrees with Mark Twain as well. Adverbs can get long, make it difficult to read a sentence, and can be confusing. Trim them down, either while you’re writing, or on the second draft, to produce clear, concise blog posts. What are adverbs? It’s any word that modifies a verb. Some common examples include gently<\/em>, here<\/em>, now<\/em>, very<\/em>, and in a sentence like “he quickly runs”, quickly<\/em> is the adverb. Should you avoid them altogether? No. Just don’t get so caught up in describing what you are talking about that you lose what you’re talking about.<\/p> <\/li>

  2. Write When You\u2019re Inspired<\/strong><\/strong>

    \u201cYou never have to change anything you got up in the middle of the night to write.\u201d – Saul BellowWhile you may want to edit a few times, no matter what Saul Bellow, Pulitzer and Nobel Prize-winning author says, he does have a point. That point is, if you write with passion, you’re writing something good. Write when you’re inspired whenever possible.<\/p> <\/li>

  3. Develop Your Style<\/strong><\/strong>

    \u201cEvery great or even every very good writer makes the world over according to his own specifications. It\u2019s akin to style, what I\u2019m talking about, but it isn\u2019t style alone. It is the writer\u2019s particular and unmistakable signature on everything he writes. It is his world and no other. This is one of the things that distinguishes one writer from another. Not talent.   5. Stay Focused on the Subject<\/strong><\/strong>

Very few people want to read about you. There are more than 450 million active English blogs. Don’t write about the mundane.   9. Read<\/strong><\/strong>

    \u201cRead, read, read. Read everything – trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You’ll absorb it. Then write. If it’s good, you’ll find out. An exclamation point is like laughing at your own joke.\u201d – F. Scott FitzgeraldExclamation points are sometimes okay, you don’t have to lose them completely, just try to use them as little as possible.   11. Find Inspiration<\/strong><\/strong>
